In pre-industrial society had no unemployment, people were poor, led subsistence lives,worked in their fields or in the fields of others or were artisans creating crafts and should there be a conflict would be the combatants. First mercantlism and than industrial revolution created a middle class which received further impetus because of mass manufacturing and Information technology. Now more than ever this group has to gear itself up for technological disruption with AI and 3D printing coming up.But this is also the age of innovation creating opportunities unknown hither to, in this small article we peep in potential skills in future jobs.



Students today would do well to remember the struggle for a job faced by Swami Vivekananda in late 1800s,a first class graduate, an erudite scholar !. Future ready means focus on gaining the right skills, salary and perks can not be our sole focus.Time to think “what the employers gain through me ? How I am adding value to his business ? Are my mental fibers elastic to new learning and adoption.” You may be highly paid, working on Software Development, but AI may render these skills redundant. in the next 5-10 years. So what can we do?



Young India has taken some strides becoming a giant service provider for the world since early 90s. Students can think flexibly beyond the groove. Skills that cannot be easily replicated by AI, Gaining skills in Designing, Product Development, Soft skills in Marketing, Negotiation and Consulting can be the key. Software As A Service (Saas) and AI which are rendering software engineers useless can be utilized for entertainment and game development which was seen as a dark horse by many but is slowly emerging.
